Volunteer work @ Fairfield Methodist Church (injured migrant workers) 2017

Through this experience, Eugene has a better understanding of how migrant workers are treated. Some of them have been cheated on (salary not given accordingly) and some who are not covered by insurance thus, are left crippled from their injuries. This gave him a better insight of their issues faced, allowing him and his classmates to empathise with them.

Volunteer work @Kranji Estate (decorate dormitory) 2017

Eugene was given an opportunity to help improve the living conditions of migrant workers at Kranji Estate. He now understands how harsh their living conditions are. He and his group of classmates decided to decorate and brighten the atmosphere of their estate by creating a snack corner as well as hanging their national flags around the common space to give them their sense of belonging.

Eugene participated in a kayak river cleanup program organized by his school. He has learnt how a selfish act of throwing a piece of plastic can be detrimental to the aquatic life in the water (fishes trapped in bags, otters ingesting the plastic bags). He picked up a variety of rubbish from Styrofoam cups to plastic bags and even shoes. This experience taught him how the effects of human polluting the waters can cause negative impacts to aquatic life.
